So I was watching 英語でしゃべらナイト a while back (great show btw and almost but not quite enough of a reason to pay your NHK bill) and they did a short piece on how companies in Japan often use cute cartoon characters to sell their products - even medicine companies go this route. Having been in Japan for a while now I can honestly say I was not surprised by the following when I was shopping today:
Still, I was taken aback a bit. I understand the need for such products but really, does he have to look so satisfied?

Bush is forever saying that democracies do not invade other countries and start wars. Well, he did just that. He invaded Iraq, started a war, and killed people. What do you think? Why has bush turned our country from a country of hope and prosperity to a country of belligerence and fear.
Are we safer today than we were before?
The more people that the government puts in jails, the safer we are told to think we are. The real terrorists are wherever they are, but they aren't living in a country with bars on the windows. We are.
